JNTU-H to conduct special classes to finish syllabus

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in the city decided to ask all its affiliated engineering colleges to conduct 'special classes' and give 10 per cent relaxation to the number of credits required to get promoted inorder to make up for the loss of working days due to Telangana agitation in the city. According to the university norms, it is imperative for every engineering college to have atleast 16 weeks of classes in a semester.
Due to the ongoing Telangana agitation, all the colleges were shut down for more than a month. The university officials decided to ask all the engineering colleges to conduct these special classes either after the college hours or in the weekends and make up for the loss of working days.
" Each subject should have 64 hours of teaching in a semester. We will ask all the colleges to conduct special classes and atleast conduct 60 hours of teaching in this semester. If there is no more disturbance and these special classes are conducted peacefully, we can save this academic year for the students. We will soon appoint an expert committee to look into the norms and the relaxations that can be given for this academic year due to the loss of working days," said Prof D NReddy, vice-chancellor, JNTU-Hyderabad.
The university will also give 10 per cent relaxation in the number of credits required to get promoted to the next academic year to all the 3 lakh engineering, MBA and MCA students . Usually, engineering students need atleast 50 per cent credits in an year to get promoted to the next year. JNTU vice-chancellor said that the varsity might eat into a few preparatory holidays in May to finish the syllabus and ensure the students graduate on time.
