Universities postpone exams after violence in OU!!!

In their last attempt to save the academic year of 40,000 students of OU, university officials indefinitely postponed the semester examinations and decided to start the next semester classes. University informed that the ongoing semester examinations which have been stalled due to Telangana agitation will be conducted either after peace prevails or along with the next semester examinations. After postponing the semester examinations for four times since the last one and a half month, OU decided to conduct it on Tuesday.
But it had to postpone again due to the suicide committed by a student on the campus. With lathi charge and violence on the campus on Wednesday, OU officials claimed that it is impossible to hold the exams in this 'tense' situation. OU vice-chancellor Prof Tirupati Rao conducted an emergency meeting with all the deans and senior faculty of the varsity after the lathicharge and violence on the campus on Wednesday and said that the current situation is not 'conducive' for the peaceful conduct of examinations which is why they want to start the classes for next semester.
"We can't conduct semester exams in the prevailing conditions. We have decided to postpone the ongoing first and third semesterexaminations indefinitely. Once situation comes back to normalcy, wewill decide on when to conduct these exams. The next semester classeswill begin from this Friday. We want to ensure all the students get their degree certificates on time so that they can apply for competitive examinations in May. If we don't start these classes now, thousands of students will lose this academic year" said Prof Tirupati Rao, vice-chancellor of OU.
VC who termed the police lathicharge and firing on the campus on Wednesday as 'unfortunate' clarified that he doesn't have the power to ask Police to leave the campus. Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological university too postponed the supplementary examinations that are scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday. JNTU-H VC Prof D N Reddy is conductinga meeting with the Principals of all the engineering colleges in the city to decide on the ongoing examinations.
"We have already lost a lot of working days due to the agitation. We had to postpone the exams now due to violence. I have called for a meeting of principals to know if classes can be conducted in current conditions. If the exams are further postponed and classes are cancelled for another ten days, then we may not be able to save this academic year for lakhs of engineering students" Prof Reddy said. Potti Sreeramulu Telugu university and Maulana Azad National urdu university too postpone their examinations for a later date due to the bandh in the city.
